Goodbye New York, Hello Awkward Tension!
It’s Friday and I’m finally heading back to New Jersey. It hasn’t been what I expected for a summer, but at least I finally have a ton of cash now. Or at least enough to last me through the first few weeks of college. This is a blog though, so it is necessary to explain my experiences in a way that will keep your attention.
Yeah…
Anyway, in case you were wondering why I haven’t been around to hang out or party or what not is because I was working my summer job at my uncle’s car dealership. It’s in this city called White Plains, which is kind of like a city/suburb hybrid made specifically for business.
Boss Blue Buildings, Bitches
The car dealership I worked for was apparently for both Dailmer (Chrysler Jeep Dodge) AND Hyundai. It wasn’t that confusing, except it took a lot longer to learn everyone’s name…and I had no idea where some calls were coming from…and I would see random people pop up from nowhere asking for th- nevermind it was confusing.
The dealership also had a service center, where mechanics would fix various car problems using their 1337 engineering skills. I thought “Hey! I want to be an engineer…maybe this job can help me there!” But of course this is MY life, so I got the simple but arduous job of scanning papers.
The best part was definitely the fact that the scans were apparently backed up by a year, and the computer used for the scanning for scanning had Windows 2000. Not only was my mind mentally drained, but I also got crazy headaches from staring at that screen for 8 hours straight. All I could do from getting bored was pure droning - just focus on finishing as many as possible without THINKING ABOUT ANYTHING. I think my intelligence decayed quite a bit, and the impression I gave my co-workers may not have been as…”excited” as it should normally be. But I got the job done quickly and efficiently while feeling I got the job done quickly and efficiently, so it’s all good.
Of course, I basically had no time for anything else afterwords. I’d just tire out after work, unable to do anything productive except watch cable (can you believe my grandmother has cable and I don’t? What’s up with that?), which became boring WAY too fast.
This show was on ALL the time.
I am especially pissed that I couldn’t go out without spending all of my cash to just travel. The bus ride was $2.25 a trip, so my cash could only be spent on trips to work and back. It also sucks when all you can communicate to your Italian grandmother whether you want to eat or not (its essential, but that’s it).
But I think I learned that life is just going to be like this - you don’t get all the time in the world, you have to make time by managing responsibilities and pacing yourself to ease the workload. Scanning all of those papers must have made me realize this subconsciously, because I scanned more papers than the day before. And with its implications, this lesson, potentially able to revamp my lifestyle and success, may be the most important lesson I’ve ever learned…
Or the most important lesson is buy a car that stands out in the crowd. Like a boss.
P.S. As I haven’t seen any movies, anybody up for watching any this weekend?
